We left Cabo San Lucas headed for Puertos Los Cabos. Just a quick couple of hours away which is nice after so many long crossings. We heard from the locals that this is whale breeding territory, so we were anxious to see the whales. We were not sure how whales mate, so we decided to do a quick google search to get some knowledge on location and if we could actually see it. We did learn that nobody should ever do a google search with the terms whales and mating together.
As we got out into the open sea, we saw whales all over the place. They were slapping their tails on the surface and slapping fins, we saw breeching whales in several places. All the whales were coupled up and having a wonderful time.
Here are a few other whale shots -- Matt took over 500 in the couple of hours we were in the area.
A pretty amazing passage.
We arrived in the port and got a slip. It is a very interesting marina, virtually all boats are from the west coast (mostly California) and the people are all Americans with big, lovely boats. We noticed that every boat was clean, waxed and spotless and there are literally two boys on each boat daily washing and waxing every day. I approached one and asked what he would charge to wash and wax my boat and he said 1500 pesos per day. I had to do the math twice to make sure I got it right. That is about $75 a day. Jesus is doing a fine job. Coda now fits into the marina just fine.
The wind whipped up and we decided to not fight it but just to stay here for a few days and let it calm down. There is a beautiful beach and nice restaurant in the marina, so we have been doing just fine.
Tomorrow at 5:00 AM we plan to head for La Paz. We will be in the Sea of Cortez.
